Every year, librarians from a group of Salisbury secondary schools meet to discuss what books we’ve loved this year, and to shortlist six of them for our annual Salisbury Schools’ Book Awards.
Pupils from each school aim to read all six books and vote for their favourite, which is then announced at a special event around World Book Day in March.
The 2024-25 awards will be hosted in March 2025 at Godolphin School, where participating pupils will be treated to a talk from one of the shortlisted authors!
So, without further ado, we’re excited to announce…
This Year’s SSBA Shortlist
- The Last Whale by Chris Vick
- In the Shadow of the Wolf Queen by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
- Secret Sister by Sophie McKenzie
- You Don’t Know What War Is: the Diary of a Young Girl From Ukraine by Yeva Skalietska
- 100 Tales from the Tokyo Ghost Café by Julian Sedgwick and Che Kutsuwada
- This Book Won’t Burn by Samira Ahmed
We’ll be kicking off our reading group at St Joseph’s at lunchtime on Thursday 7th November, where pupils will hear about the shortlist and choose their first book to read. We’ll then host a monthly book group to discuss them and make sure we’re all staying on track to read them all by March!
