Weekly Update: Week 6 (11.10.24)

The Headmaster’s Office

When we think about our children and what we want them to achieve from their time at school, many parents and carers will always want happiness, character development, and the ability for the next step on their educational or work journey to be a leap of success rather than a stumble over the finishing line.

I read today that Pope Francis prays to Saint Joseph every day and has done so for the last 40 years. This prayer is essential for everyone who is struggling or striving to be the best version of themselves. It reads:

Glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph,
whose power makes the impossible possible,
come to my aid in these times of anguish and difficulty.
Take under your protection the serious
and troubling situations that I commend to you,
that they may have a happy outcome.
My beloved father, all my trust is in you.
Let it not be said that I invoked you in vain,
and since you can do everything with Jesus and Mary,
show me that your goodness is as great as your power.

I hope these words help us to channel our minds and reflect that we can achieve greatness with love, support, and guidance.

Have a lovely weekend.

Year 11 Mocks Results Evening

The time has almost arrived for Year 11 to receive their mock exam results! I know from speaking with many of them over the last week that there is a mixture of excitement and also fear surrounding the evening. On Thursday 17th October at 6pm, we will be holding a mock exams results reveal evening.  Parents and pupils are be invited to attend St. Joseph’s to receive their results replicating the experience that they will have in August with their actual results.  During this evening, we will also be outlining the Year 11 programme for the year and how St. Joseph’s can fully support you and your child through this particularly important, and sometimes challenging year. If you cannot attend on Thursday evening, we will also run a catch-up session on Friday after school at 3:30pm.

A separate communication will be sent to reserve your space at the evening.

Open Morning Pride

Yesterday was a very busy Open Morning at school with many prospective parents coming to see the school in action.  The parents who visited were full of praise for the school, pupils and staff.  They all commented on what a calm, settled and caring environment we have here at St. Joseph’s. They were also super complimentary about their tour guides – this time around it was exclusively Year 9 who were conducting the tours.  They were incredibly passionate about the school and took real pride in being a member of our community – they really are brilliant ambassadors for the school.  Well done Year 9!

Tesco Stronger Starts Programme

The Anti-Bullying Ambassadors are delighted to announce that they have been accepted on the Tesco Stronger Starts programme. We would like the funds to go towards a wellbeing seating area. We intend for the space to be a calm area where pupils can spend time outdoors during their break and lunch time.

Voting with the blue tokens, officially began this month and will run until the 12th January. If you go to any of the following Tesco stores, please do add to the St Joseph’s collection:

  • Fordingbridge Tesco
  • Salisbury, Wilton Road Tesco
  • Salisbury, Town Centre Tesco
  • Salisbury, Southampton Road Tesco

The first-place prize is £1500, second place is £1000 and third place is £500. The more money we raise, the more we will be able to achieve for our school community.

Thank you for your support in our wellbeing campaign.

Extra-Curricular Clubs

Well done to all pupils who are making the most of the extra-curricular opportunities on offer – it’s great to see pupils’ passions for activities being ignited!

A special mention must go this week to our Cross-Country runners who competed in a local schools tournament on Monday in awful weather conditions and to our Yr10 netball team who came 4th in a local schools netball tournament at Sarum Academy. Next week our Yr11 boys football team will be playing a fixture against Wyvern St Eds – the Laverstock El Classico.  Good luck boys!
