Weekly Update: 11th June 2021

Published: June 11, 2021

I do hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather we’ve been having this week – the children certainly have at lunchtime!

Lunchtimes

As we publicised before the half term break, due to having more space with Year 11 no longer on site, we can now accommodate the feeding and social distancing of remaining pupils in a single lunch break. This has gone down really well with the pupils and they have kept to their bubble spaces and canteen timings impeccably.

Water Bottles & Sun Cream

With the hot weather hopefully here to stay, please could you make sure that children bring their own water bottles; following the measures we took to make the school site as covid-secure as possible, we have increased the number of water fountains and people can top up their bottles at break and lunchtimes.

The field and playground offer very little shade, so please also remind your child to bring either sunscreen or a cap for break and lunchtimes.

Lunch Reminders

With it being the first week back, I am guilty of these next items myself; forgetting my cashless payment card for lunch and then not having topped up my balance on the card!

It’s easily done, but please can you ensure that your child has their cashless payment card and that it has funds on it.

PE Clubs for this Half Term

PE clubs have changed for this half term and there are lots of summer sports on offer:

  • Tuesday after school: Tennis, Tag Rugby
  • Wednesday after school: Fitness on the Field, Rounders
  • Thursday before school: Table Tennis
  • Thursday after School: Athletics, Trampolining

Year 11

This is a reminder that to help support all of our Year 11s as they prepare to embark upon the next stage of their learning journey, we have collated a number of resources designed to help them strengthen any areas of weakness from subjects you plan to continue with, to prepare for post-16 education, to impart life skills such as financial management and increase employability skills through access to a nationally recognised award.  By visiting the dedicated Year 11 page on our website, you’ll be able to find the following resources:

  • iDEA Award
  • Oak National Academy
  • National Careers Service Toolkit
  • A careers link to useful resources

In addition, most 6th forms will be supplying work and suggested materials in preparation September.  Colleges will be contacting pupils individually regarding this.

Summer Events & Cautious First Steps Back to Normality:

The pandemic has taken its toll on many normal day-to-day activities in school life, but we’re delighted to announce that the summer term will be seeing the return of some of our favourite events; we will be holding a sports day this year and a house competition day at school too.  In addition, towards the end of term there will also be reward experiences in school for pupils and also sports day awards assemblies and end of year celebration and awards assemblies.

In addition, you will be receiving end of year progress reports and an opportunity, thereafter, for contact with staff should there be any areas of concern.  We will also be sharing dates for parents’ information evenings shortly.

We thank you for your patience and understanding but we are now cautiously planning our steps back to normality; domestic trips will be back on the cards from September onwards and pending government guidance, we’re hoping to continue with our overseas trips and experiences for the following September.

Year 5

If you or anyone you know has a chid in year 5 and would like to know more about our wonderful school, please note that we have a dedicated Year 5 webpage providing information for prospective families which includes video clips from pupils and teachers as well as a virtual tour of school.

There is also an online booking system for scheduling a tour around school for parents and their year 5 children.

Achievement Points Race

It’s still incredibly close at the top!  Teresa still lead but Margaret have jumped up to second!

  • 1st place: Teresa with 26,948 points
  • 2nd place: Margaret with 26,868 points
  • 3rd place: Vincent with 26,825 points
  • 4th place: Francis with 24,957 points

Lateral Flow Testing & PCR Testing

Many thanks for continuing to do the two lateral flow tests each week – these tests will help to reduce the risk of covid in school.

Please do not that if your child displays covid symptoms you should book them in for a PCR test.

Have a lovely weekend and if football is your thing, we hope you enjoy the start of the Euros!
