Year 11 Mock Results Evening
Thursday evening was a big moment in the life of our Year 11 pupils’ lives – the revealing of their mock exam results. As is always the case, there was a mix of emotions on the evening; joy, relief, frustration and disappointment – this is all very natural.
The reason we have mock exams and host the evening is to prepare for and replicate the experiences of the summer when it is all for real – it is far better to feel frustrated and disappointed now and have time to address it, rather than have that feeling in the summer when it is too late.
We talked last night about teamwork, making the days count and using these results as a starting point because that is exactly what they are. They are not the final grades; they are an indicator and a point in time where we can review and refresh our efforts to ensure that we’re working together to get the best outcomes for your children.
After half term we will begin the WIN programme, and you will be notified via email if your child has been selected for sessions and which sessions in particular. Please do remember to fill in the mock exam reflection before the end of the weekend, as your answers will help to inform our decisions, here.
Also, next half term we will be beginning the mentoring of pupils and will start to organise this following conversations with the children after the first week back following the half term break.
Remember, don’t count the days, make the days count!
Year 10 Maths Enrichment
Also, on Thursday we welcomed many local schools to our hall to participate and compete in a Maths Enrichment morning. It was a great morning involving problem solving and giving food for thought on where maths can take you career-wise.
Sporting Fixtures
This week has also seen a number of sporting fixtures take place – Yr11 boys football drew 3-3 with Wyvern St Eds in the Laverstock El Classico (there were reports of a controversial linesman decision for one of the goals we conceded).
Yr7-10 girls also competed in a netball and football tournament at Trafalgar and one of the teams missed out on a place in the final when they lost the semis on penalties.
Cross Country also took place earlier in the week, again in torrid conditions! We’re hoping that it’ll be third time lucky in terms of weather for the next race!
Year 7 House Party
Mr Brown is delighted with how Year 7 have settled into school life and is really looking forwards to the Year7 House Party during period 5 next Tuesday. It will be a fitting celebration to a wonderful first half-term. We are so proud of how they have handled the transition from primary to secondary school!
Tesco Stronger Starts Programme
The Anti-Bullying Ambassadors are delighted to announce that they have been accepted on the Tesco Stronger Starts programme. We would like the funds to go towards a wellbeing seating area. We intend for the space to be a calm area where pupils can spend time outdoors during their break and lunch time.
Voting with the blue tokens, officially began this month and will run until the 12th of January. If you go to any of the following Tesco stores, please do add to the St Joseph’s collection:
- Fordingbridge Tesco
- Salisbury, Wilton Road Tesco
- Salisbury, Town Centre Tesco
- Salisbury, Southampton Road Tesco
The first-place prize is £1500, second place is £1000, and third place is £500. The more money we raise, the more we will be able to achieve for our school community.
