What a half term it’s been and how quickly has it flown by?! There has been sporting fixtures, great house competitions, fabulous learning opportunities, a visiting theatre company in school, a visit from Bath Spa University, the launch of work experience for Year 10, various workshops led by outside agencies, mock exams, a Year 10 parents evening, and a focus on literacy across the curriculum. And to top it all off, a trip to Belgium (next week!).
Media Session
A group of Year 10 pupils had a very unique experience this week learning all about media production. Andy Munns led a workshop giving the pupils the opportunity to produce a TV news item. The workshop was great fun and included activities on news reading, vision and sound mixing and learning some of the tricks of the trade behind the scenes of TV production!
Interventions Programme for Year 11
On Thursday we hosted an online information evening for all year parents and pupils. During the evening we shared information regarding the Intervention programme from February to the exam window in May and extra resources and initiatives to help the pupils and families in the lead up to exams, including Easter revision sessions and Parent Sessions. The presentation can be found here.
Year 11 will be bringing home their mock exam results sheet today along with a letter explaining their intervention programme.
A Christmas Carol
We were fortunate enough to welcome Quantum Theatre company to school on Thursday afternoon for their fabulous production of A Christmas Carol (one of the set texts at GCSE). The whole of Year 10 and Year 11 along with GCSE Drama pupils from Year 9 were captivated by the performance which was done entirely by a cast of three actors!
Non-Uniform Day & Clothes Donations
We are absolutely blown away today by the generosity of our community. Thank you so much for all of your donations today for the Earthquake Appeal – we have lots of bags of clothes and blankets and at the time of writing a whopping £900 has been donated for the appeal too. We will continue to collect donations of clothes after half term too.
Battlefields Trip to Belgium
On Sunday, 37 pupils and 5 staff will be waking up incredibly early to head over to Belgium on our first overseas residential trip since the pandemic. In actual fact, the last time the Belgium trip went in 2020 was our last residential trip! It’s an early start (4:45am) but promises to be a fabulous trip packed full of varied and interesting visits.
If you’re going on the trip don’t forget: your passport, your packed lunch and snacks for day one, your medication (if needed), and also a towel! Oh, and your wellies too!
