Weekly Update: 9th June 2023

Published June 9, 2023

I really can’t believe that we are now in the final half term of the year!  Most years go by quickly, but this year seems to have flown by so far!  With us now entering the summer months, the weather (hopefully!) will remain bright and sunny.

With the sun, though, comes heat and we will make decisions regarding uniform as and when is appropriate – for example, today the children did not have to wear blazers.  If temperatures increase further, as we have done in the past, we may allow PE kits to be worn but please always wait for official correspondence to come out regarding the relaxing of uniform.  Hopefully, we’ll not experience the extreme temperatures of last July’s heat wave!

Year 11 Activities Next Week – all invited!

Next Thursday and Friday after school promise to be very memorable moments for our current Year 11 – we’ll be hosting our inaugural staff vs Year 11 netball match on Thursday after school and also our staff vs Year 11 football match on Friday after school.  Pupils and parents are more than welcome to attend, and we hope to see as many of you there as possible for these brilliant events! Both events will begin at 4pm.

Year 8 Parents’ Evening

Next Wednesday evening is Year 8 parents’ evening – this is being hosted online and is a brilliant opportunity for you to speak to your child’s subject teachers to discuss progress and achievement across the curriculum.  If you have not yet booked your slots, please do so using this link.

If you are having issues booking appointments, please do not hesitate to contact us at school.

End of Year Exams

The end of year assessment window opens for Year 10 on Monday 12th June.  Subject teachers will be informing their classes which lessons they will be choosing for the assessments.  The window will be open for 2 weeks.  These assessments will be followed by a set of formal mock exams in September where the pupils will be given a mock exam timetable and will be taking exams in the school hall.

Year 10 had a taste of the traditional exam format earlier in the week on Tuesday where they all sat a Chemistry GCSE paper int he  and we were delighted with how they tackled the experience with maturity and seriousness – well done Year 10!

The Year 7-9 End of Year Assessment Window opens on Monday 19th June.  Subject teachers will be informing their classes which lessons they will be choosing for the assessments.  The window will be open for 2 weeks.

Need help revising?  Use the revision booklets that we’ve put together to help you succeed!  They have useful information on how to revise including a page or two from each subject informing you what to revise!  You can find the revision booklets here along with other useful revision information.

Barcelona Trip

The Barcelona trip was an amazing experience for all involved!  We were complimented time and time again on how well behaved and respectful the children were.  The general public at the airport and on the Metro, the staff at the sites we visited and the staff at the hostel were full of praise for the children.

We were incredibly proud of how they conducted themselves and their behaviour contributed to an immensely enjoyable trip.  They embraced every opportunity fully and perhaps most notably at the tapas restaurant where, hesitation, they sampled (and finished!) all the traditional food presented to them!

Year 11 – Uniform Plea!

If you are a Year 11 parent and are wondering what to do with all the uniform that will no longer be used by your child after the next week or so, please bring it into school and we can make use of it!  We are very short of skirts (all sizes), trousers (mainly large), shirts (mainly larger), ties (all) and larger blazers.  These can be reused across the school!
