Weekly Update: 8th April 2022

Published April 8, 2022

What a term! Firstly, a huge thank you to you all for your support this term as we have been returning to as normal as possible in the current situation. It has certainly been brilliant to start running trips and having mixed year group clubs again – the children get so much from these enrichment activities!

The term hasn’t been without its challenges, and, like all schools currently, we have been experiencing staff shortages due to covid.  A huge message of thanks must go out to all staff who have admirably covered their colleagues’ lessons to ensure that the pupils have teachers who are known to them.

Another Busy Week

This week was a fantastic week for the school…

  • The Chaplaincy Team and some Year 7 pupils decorated our Easter Cross with heartfelt prayers from across the form groups earlier in the week – there are a couple of photos on our Twitter feed (@sjcssalisbury)
  • Year 9 GCSE Art and also Yr8 Higher Ability art pupils went to Weymouth to the aquarium and beach as part of their studies on ‘Aquatic Life’.
  • We welcomed Commonwealth athlete and high jumper, Rob Mitchell, to school on Tuesday and he put us through our paces!
  • We also had Bath Spa University talking to a number of Year 8 pupils on Tuesday
  • Wednesday saw us compete in a Public Speaking Competition at St Peter’s school in Bournemouth and Spencer from Year 11 triumphed against some sixth formers and will now participate in the finals in Manchester in September (his persuasive speech was on giving 16-year-olds the right to vote)
  • The traditional Year 11 dance off happened today and was an absolute beauty! (Well done to the winning house, Teresa!)

Progress Reports

At the start of term we announced that progress reports would be released before the end of term.  Unfortunately, due to Covid we have experienced a number of staff absences over the last few weeks. This has impacted on our ability to have the final reports ready.

We have prioritised the Year 11 reports and these have been sent home with Year 11 pupils today. Other Year groups’ reports will be distributed as soon as possible, with Year 9&10 likely to be distributed during the holidays and Yr7&8 during the first week back after Easter. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Sports for Champions

Thank you for all of your support with this – it was a great day!  The total raised for Sports for Champions UK (this goes towards the training of athletes that represent our country) was £733. The total raised for our PE Department was £404 – absolutely amazing!!!

Special mention goes to: 8F for raising a staggering £240, 7T for raising £176.20 and also to 8T & 9M who raised £85 each!A special thanks goes out to Mrs Fenwick for her energy and drive in making sure this day happened!

Year 11 Easter Revision Sessions

The second week of the Easter holidays sees 4 days of revision sessions for Year 11. These sessions can be found here.

After Easter

A couple of things to help get you ready for when we return after the Easter break:

  • We return at the normal time on Monday 25th April
  • We return on Week 1 of the timetable
  • Uniform – coats, hoodies, jumpers will no longer be permitted inside the school building

Achievement Points Race

The battle between Vincent & Teresa for 2nd is hotting up!

STOP PRESS: A couple of weeks ago, I shared a poem entitled War Child, I mistakenly attributed to the poem to one author when it was in fact a collaboration between both Beatrix James and Maddy Morrissey-Leggett in Year 7.

Have a restful, happy and holy Easter!

Mr Rooney
