Weekly Update: 8th July 2022

Published July 8, 2022

The final full week of teaching for the academic year 2021-22 has just been completed!  Next week sees the return of Sports Day for the first time since 2019, and the return of the rewards trip since the same year!  The following week sees the inaugural enrichment days on Monday and Tuesday, Race for Life on Wednesday and then House Competition Day and Awards Assemblies on the Thursday and Friday, respectively.  A jam-packed programme to finish the year on a high!

Another Busy Week!

  • Tuesday saw a number of our Year 9s make their confirmation.
  • On Wednesday we welcomed our new year 7 to school – all 130 of them!  And in the evening, we welcomed their parents to school too.  It was so lovely to have a school hall full of families and to feel the buzz of a face-to-face gathering.
  • Wednesday also saw all of Year 10 attend Andover College for an open/taster day.
  • On Thursday we welcomed Animal Aid into school to discuss plant-based alternatives with our year 10 GCSE food technology group – a very informative and enlightening discussion!
  • Throughout the week, we’ve also been holding House Assemblies in order to motivate the pupils (and staff) for Sports Day.  There seems to be some contention about which House lays claim to the lion as their mascot – Teresa or Margaret?!

Year 10 into 11 Mock Exams Revision Booklet

The Revision Booklet for Year 10 into 11 Mock Exams has been published on Show My Homework – it’s a very useful booklet including revision tips and strategies, how best to prepare for exams as well as including subject specific pages with key topics and modules to help you revise effectively.  This will also be on the school website from next week onwards.  The exams will take place early in the autumn term and the mock exam timetable will be released shortly.

Uniform for Next Week

With the weather forecast looking incredibly hot over the next week, we will be relaxing the uniform expectations.

  • Pupils will be allowed to wear school PE kit all week – remember Tuesday will be sports day and we’re encouraging everyone to bring lots of water and sun cream!
  • Thursday will be own clothes day to raise money for the school defibrillator (we’re requesting a £2 donation for this vital piece of equipment)
  • Friday rewards trip and rewards qualifiers (cinema experience) will be own clothes.  All other pupils on Friday will be PE kit.

Enrichment Experiences

The deadline for booking onto reward experiences is today.  Any paid experiences are bookable through the School Gateway app.  At the time of writing, I believe there are limited places for Yr8 Tank Museum trip, Swimming at Godolphin, and Yr10 Escape Rooms experience.

All other events are bookable by the children via the link circulated on Satchel One (SMHW).

Celebration Evenings

We’re really looking forward to welcoming you back into school next week for the Celebration Evenings!  They will begin at 5pm and run for approximately 45 minutes with refreshments served afterwards in the canteen.

Invicta National Academy was set up in 2020 as a result of Covid-19 to reconnect children with missed learning. Their mission now is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to catch up and progress with access to free, live, interactive, virtual teaching for children and young people during the summer holidays.

Online lessons are available between 10am-12pm throughout August and include lessons for Key Stages 1-4 as well as introduction to coding sessions.
