Weekly Update: 29th September 2023

International Day

What a brilliant day today has been!  It’s been fabulous showing off our diverse heritage and culture and absolutely fantastic hearing and having conversations with pupils about their identity and their culture heritage!  School has been super vibrant and colourful with many pupils and staff embracing the opportunity to wear the colours of their heritage.  We’ve seen national dress from Ghana, India, Germany and South America and lots of scarves (Poland in particular!), flags and, of course, loads of football tops!

At breaktime, Mrs Barratt ran a French stall that was incredibly popular with the pupils and was a great way of encouraging them to speak some French!  Mrs Barratt also ran the Spanish Fiesta House Competition which was an absolute blast!

In addition, aside from having lots of fun and embracing different cultures and celebrating our heritage, we’ve raised hundreds of pounds too which will go to the emergency appeal for Morocco.  Well done St Joseph’s!

Aiming for Excellence and Parent Information Evenings

Thank you to all parents who attended the parent information evenings this week.  We hope that you found them valuable and are now aware of the focus and the important dates for the Year for your child.

If you could not attend the meetings, they will be uploaded on our website early next week and will be found by clicking here.

Year 11 Mock Exam Results Reveal & Information Evening

As mentioned last week, the mock examinations are being marked and we are going to replicate the experience of an Exam Results day where parents and pupils receive the results at the same time.  In light of this Year 11 will be invited to come to school at 6pm on Thursday 12th October, where we will:

  • present the results to pupils and parents
  • outline the programme of interventions for the year ahead
  • outline important dates and events for year 11 this year

Should Year 11 parents not be able to attend on Thursday, we will also have a session on Friday afternoon after school at 3:45.  A invite will be sent separately next week.

Year 7 Events coming up next week

  • Year 7 Form Tutor Evening: Weds 4th Oct

A chance to catch-up with your child’s form tutor to discuss how they are settling into life at St Joseph’s.  You should have received an email inviting you to book a meeting if required.  Our SENCO is also available for meetings on the evening.  Please follow the instructions on your email to login to School Cloud to book your video appointment

  • Year 7 House Party!: Fri 6th Oct

An after school event for all year 7 – a chance for the year group to bond and also take part in lots of team building and house competitions! Please confirm your child’s attendance here.

Homework Timetables & HW Club

Homework Timetables are now published on our website here – we will be sharing these with the children next week.

The timetables are put together to help ensure an even spread of homework throughout the week and also to ensure that pupils do not feel overwhelmed with homework.  Please do get in touch with us if this is the case.

We have also started running Homework club this week.  It’s always in Room 26 (next to the library) and is open at the following times:

  • Tuesday & Wednesday before school from 8:30am until 8:50am
  • Tuesday & Wednesday after school from 3:35pm until 4:30pm

There is no need to reserve a space, children just need to turn up to Room 26 for the session they would like to attend.
